Job Duties:
i) Issuance of Circulars, Notices, to Mercantile Marine Department , Instruction to Surveyors, and Notices to Shipmaster/ Companies in respect of Machinery equipment and hull.

ii) Scrutiny and implementation of National/ International Laws/ Rules with respect of statutory certificates and seaworthiness of vessels. Safety of Ships, Surveys and Inspections, in respect of machinery and hull alongwith recommendations made by International Organization concerned with Shipping.

iii) Work connected with the engineering aspects of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

iv) Scrutiny and approval of specification, plans and constructional drawing of vessels, and the equipment and arrangements.

Qualification/Experience required:
(i) Certificate of Competency or Certificate of Service as First Class Engineer (Combined or Motor).
(ii) At least five years as Chief Engineer of Ships not less than 373 BHP (Three years for candidates holding Extra-First Class Engineer Certificate).
(iii)  At least five years post qualification experience in any one of the following capacities (a) Engineer and Ship Surveyor (or equivalent post) in any Mercantile Marine Department of a country (b) Officer in Technical Branch of Naval Headquarters or in Naval Dockyard.
(iV) At least two years experience as Examiner of Marine Engineers.
